We want to honour the leap of faith people take when seeking help by building a practice where clients feel welcome, heard, and understood, and receive science-backed treatments from an experienced team.
We also want to provide a workplace where every team member feels valued and respected for their unique skills, experience, and perspectives, connected to their colleagues, and supported to thrive in their work.
We want the team, referrers, and clients and their loved ones feel they are in good hands.

Dr Sarah Davenport is the Director and Principal Clinical Psychologist at Headstrong Psychology. Sarah started the practice in 2018, after more than a decade working in both public and private mental health services. Sarah is passionate about her work in private practice and continues to take a hands-on approach in all areas of the practice, including maintaining her own clinical caseload.
Dr Sarah Davenport, Director and Principal Clinical Psychologist, started Headstrong Psychology in 2018, after more than a decade working in both public and private mental health services.
Sarah is joined by a small team of experienced clinical psychologists who are passionate about their work, sharing their knowledge and skills, hearing each other’s perspectives, and supporting each other to grow and thrive in their work.
While we are aligned in our values, each psychologist is encouraged to lean into their own therapeutic approaches, clinical interests, and interpersonal styles in their work. We work collaboratively with each psychologist to tailor their workload, align their caseload with their clinical preferences, support their growth, and encourage their professional aspirations.

Building a work life that is both satisfying and sustainable is our top priority!
Too often, we hear from psychologists who are tired of being part of large organisations, feel undervalued and unsupported, and have lost their confidence and passion for their work. We also hear from psychologists who feel lost in large private practices where they have limited say in their caseload, feel disconnected from their colleagues, and are unsure where to turn to for support.
At Headstrong Psychology, we strive to be different.
Here’s what you can expect when you join us:
Tailored Referrals: Sarah personally manages all new referrals to ensure they are a good fit for our practice (not the admin team and no online bookings!) We are solely focussed on providing therapy and supervision in our areas of clinical interest and expertise. We don't try to be all things to all people.
Sustainable Caseloads: We work with each psychologist to ensure their caseload aligns with their availability, preferences, strengths and approaches. We want our team to feel comfortable, confident and fulfilled in their work, not overwhelmed and burnt out.
Strong Client Engagement: We have established processes that foster high attendance and low cancellation/no-show rates to facilitate therapy engagement and outcomes. Most of our clients engage in therapy in the medium term and are not limited by the annual Medicare rebates limits.
Established referral networks: Our referrers who understand and appreciate the work we do. In addition, a significant number of our referrals are returning clients and people recommended to us by our clients.
Flexible Scheduling: We encourage you to choose the days and hours that work best for you to allow good work-life balance.
Supportive Environment: We are a close-knit group of colleagues who enjoy working alongside each other, catching up in our breaks, and connecting at our CPD events. We enjoy being part of a boutique practice with one location.
Professional Development: We offer in-house CPD events, peer supervision, and ongoing mentorship to help you grow in your practice.
Competitive Remuneration: We offer transparent and fair contractor agreements with competitive rates.
